Speaking about keeping traditions alive for future generations, I have always been impressed by the ancestral and primitive skills crowd and how they are keeping very old traditions alive in our modern era. I go to some of their gatherings and in particular the Saskatoon Circle held in the Methow valley in Eastern Washington. Dr. Nicole Apelian is a well-known herbalist, biologist, and survival instructor. She is a regular instructor and participant at the Saskatoon Circle. She writes books and this year I asked her how they were selling. I almost fell over when she said her best selling book, The Lost Book of Herbal Remedies (co-authored with Claude Davis), has sold over 2 million copies so far. Wow! It indicates how big the interest in herbs really is. How many of the people who have bought her book live in the Pacific Northwest? A lot of them for sure. The market for PNW herbal gatherings is big. We just need to figure out how to reach more of these people and invite them to the Northwest Herbal Fair. Please help us reach more of them.
