RECENT  HERBAL  DISCOVERIES

led by Rowan Hamilton, MNIMH, Dip. Phyt., MSCS;

A one-day seminar. Rowan Hamilton is a British clinical herbalist living in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is a founder of the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in Vancouver and is their lecturer in Botanical Medicine. Hamilton is also a faculty at Bastyr University in Seattle and the Technical Director of Rowan Botanicals, Inc. He trained in Chinese medicine at the Canton Medical School. Topics include: new herbs in the marketplace; more efficacious ways to use common herbs; what constitutes high-quality herbal products; and recent research. Seminar fee $45

Permaculture Design & Specialty Crops

The workshop, held at Persephone Farm, will introduce permaculture design for large yards and small farms. How to make themmore productive, both economically and biologically. Some topics will include living fences, windbreaks, wildlife plantings, water catchments, soil improvement, market gardening and using biomass, prunings, slash, and organic waste in the landscape. We will also cover a wide variety of specialty crops: foods, flowers, florals, fruits and medicinal herbs.  The workshop will be instructed by Michael Pilarski, Rebeccca Slatterly and Jim Salter.

Field tours of Sunny Pine Farm's 4 acres of herbs.  Plus sales of a wide variety of herb seedlings, plants, seeds, crown division, rhizomes as well as many trees and shrubs. All at reasonable prices.

Tierra Permaculture Design Course - Near Leavenworth, Washington

Held at the 310-acre Tierra conference center. Michael Pilarski, Penny Livingston and Bruce Hill, instructors.  The course will be relevant to maritime and interior Northwest climates. Michael Pilarski is Friends of the Trees' Director. Penny Livingston is director of the Permaculture Institute of Northern California. Bruce Hill was raised in Argentina, and is a fluent instructor in both Spanish and English.  The fee for the two-week accreditted course is $800 with accomodations. $700 if you camp. Scholarships available for people of color.

Hiking in the mountains to look at medicinal plants. Identification, uses, sustainable harvesting and processing.

Fairy & Human Relations Congress - Twisp, Methow Valley, Skalitude Retreat Center

A gathering of humans and fairies to improve relations & assist each other in planetary healing. Held in the North Cascades. The 2nd annual Congress organized by Friends of the Trees Society. Admission fee is $125 before June 1. After June 1st, $150. Teens are $30. Children are $20.

The 7th annual Northwest Herbal Faire, Near Bellingham

Over 60 workshops, herbal vendors, two stages, lots of entertainment and fun. Over 1,000 people attended the 2001 Faire.

Sustainable Wildcrafting  & Growing Medicinal plants, Methow Valley. North Cascades

A 3-day, hands-on workshop in the wild and at Sunny Pine Farm.
