Ecosystem Restoration with Native Plants Yielding Medicine, Food & Fiber (more)
March 20 - Sunday 1:00 - 5:30 pm, an afternoon workshop
Portland, People's Food Co-op, 3029 SE 21st
Instructed by Michael Pilarski. Workshop topics:
Restoration of native plants & habitats
Edible berries, roots, tubers & greens
Medicinal uses of plants
Other useful native plants
Of the 3,200 or so vascular plant species native to the Pacific Northwest, it is likely that fully half of the species are, or were, utilized by Northwest native people. Some of these plants are still used by current Northwest residents, but very few people alive today have the depth of native plant knowledge that indigenous people had several centuries ago. Learning more about our native plants can be beneficial to all of us. We can reduce our consumption of store bought foods, medicines and tools, thus reducing our ecological impact. It can also help us gain more appreciation and respect for native plants and wild places.
Michael Pilarski has worked extensively with native plants in both the maritime and interior Pacific Northwest. His publications include Ethnobotany & Ethnoecology Resource Guide, and Restoration Forestry. He commercially collects native seeds and wildcrafts medicinal plants. He has a wide range of experience in ecology, ethnobotany, wildcrafting, seed collecting, restoration, organic agriculture, permaculture, and agroforestry. In 1978, Michael was inspired to start Friends of the Trees Society and devote his life to world reforestation. He blends a working relationship with fairies and devas with practical hands-on knowledge of how to plant trees and restore ecosystems. Respecting and cooperating with the unseen forces of nature can assist us in our goals of Earth healing. www.friendsofthetrees.net [Note: This is a different organization than Friends of Trees, Portland]

Fairies & Devas (more)
An evening discussion
March 20 with Michael Pilarski & assembled guests
At People's Food Co-op, 7:00-9:00 pm
You are invited to spend an evening exploring the realm of fairies, devas and angels. Michael will share the story of his work with Daphne Charters and Daphne's Collected Manuscripts. He will also talk about the development of the Fairy & Human Relations Congress which he has organized since 2001. The 5th Congress will be held June 24-26, 2005 in the Hood River Valley. www.fairycongress.com
Fairies, devas and angels are all part of the same evolution. They reincarnate on Earth many times, each time growing in stature, beauty and responsibilities. Eventually, fairies become devas and then angels. There are many branches of this evolution. Some work with plants, others with water, air, minerals, animals, humans, etc. We will focus mainly on the plant fairies.
You are invited to bring your favorite books on fairies and devas for show & tell.
